This intensive one-day CPD event, led by Dr Peter Vardy and Charlotte Vardy, addresses the need for training to support delivery of the Christianity elements of the new specifications and will provide teachers with a focussed subject-knowledge top-up and an editable scheme of work…  read more…

 

Preparing to Teach Christianity for the new GCSE Religious Studies

icon-in-the-original-senseThe DfE has required examination boards to specify the systematic study of two religions alongside the more familiar themes in Philosophy of Religion and Religious Ethics for all GCSE courses taught from September 2016.  The vast majority of schools are choosing Christianity as one of their two religions but although it might seem like a “safe” and “familiar” option, on closer inspection the new specifications will ask us to teach about Christian beliefs, teachings and practices in a way that is quite unfamiliar to many teachers—specialist or not.

This intensive one-day event will support teachers in preparing to teach Christianity (not the Roman Catholic Christianity option) for the new specifications – and will provide a generous range of resources including an editable scheme of work… read more..

Preparing to teach Buddhism for the new GCSE Religious Studies

cropped-1920x1200_eyes_of_buddhaThe DfE has required examination boards to specify the systematic study of two religions alongside the more familiar themes in Philosophy of Religion and Religious Ethics for all GCSE courses taught from September 2016.  Whilst the vast majority of schools are choosing Christianity as one of their two religions — schools are split on which other faith to explore.  A sizeable minority of schools would like to teach Buddhism, the only non-theistic religion offered at the moment and a complete contrast to Christianity, but so far have been unsupported in preparing to make this choice by exam boards and publishers.  This intensive one-day event will support teachers in preparing to teach Buddhism for the new specifications – and will provide them with a generous range of resources including an editable scheme of work. read more…
